Week 7 Challenge

AIM AND INTRODUCTION:

To calculate the water current forces for the bridge structure and apply the calculated loads in the Staad pro.

Given Data:

HFL =2m from ground level

Span =45m

Mean velocity =3m/s

Water Current Forces:

Ocean currents can be caused by wind, density differences in water masses caused by temperature and salinity variations, gravity, and events such as earthquakes or storms

Procedure:

Max. Velocity = √2*Vmean(Mean velocity=3m/s)

= √2*3

=4.24 m/s

Water Current,P=52*K*V2

According to IS Code 78-2000 Section VII table No 4 Page No 21 is value of K is 0.66 for Circular Piers

k = 0.66 for circular (Circular piers /piers ends with semi circular)

Therefore Water Current, P =52*.66*4.242

=616.9912 Kn/m2
