Week 7-12-Creation of 1D Connectors Challenge

REPORT

AIM

To mesh the given geometry satisfying the given quality criteria and to create connections on the various parts of the component.

PROCEDURE

First I meshed the geometry using the given quality criteria, during meshing process failed elements were there. I fixed it by remeshing and adjusting number of nodes and 2D-qualityindex. I did not concentrate on mesh flow or number of trias because the main objective is to make the connections properly.

1.

The above picture shows Right rail 2 and Front truss 1 is connected using seam-quad(angled+capped+L).

2. Left rail 2 and Front truss 1 is connected using quad elements.

3. Front truss 1, Front truss 2 and Right rail 1 is connected with spot weld with 2 layers and 5mm diameter.

4. Front truss 2, Front truss 1 and Left rail 1 is connected using Hexa(adhesive).

5. Rear truss 2 and Right rail 2 are connected using bolt connector.

First I used this method to create bolt but it failed.

so I used create and connected the nodes. That was the only way to create bolts others were failing I don't know the reason.

6. Rear truss 2 and Left rail 2 is also connected using bolt connector with the same as above.

7. Right rail 1 and Right rail 2 are connected using spot weld with rigid elements.

8. Left rail 1 and Left rail 2 are connected using spot weld with spring elements.

9. Now Rear truss 1 is not connected to anything so I connected it with Rear truss 2 using spot weld with spring elements.

10. Reinforced plate is connected as same above using spot weld with spring elements.

11. Rest of the component is connected using 1D-connectors-area.

RESULT

Meshed the given geometry without failed elements. Connections are succesfully made on the geometric parts as per given connection details
