Week 6-Meshing of Hood Challenge

Objective:

To Mesh the given Hood geometry according to the following mesing criteria.

Procedure adopted:

The following images shows the CAD files of the geometry

1. Inner Extract

2.Outer Extract

3.Latch Reinforcement

4. Hinge Reinforcement

All of the componets are having constant thickness. So following procedure is used to complete the meshing.

Step 1. Creating midsurface using midsurface tool with skin offset option.

Step 2. Since most of these geometries are symmetrical in shape, the surface is trimmed with plan to divide the surface. This will decrease the meshing time considerably.

Step 3. Geometry cleanup using quick edit tools. In the midsurface geometry there are some edges needs to be suppressed using toggle edge option.

Step 4. Meshing the geometry using Automesh tool with element size of 5. Before meshing the meshing cieteria in HM is changed to the given table of meshing criteria.

Step 5. After finishing the meshing, the mesh quality is checked with qualityindex tool. There are some elements that doesn't beong to the meshing criteria. Inorder to change the meshing quality at these elements, following tools are used.

a. automesh: to mesh the elements with local mesh.

b. cleanup tools: this tools are used to edit the elements

c. smoothing: to smoothen the selected elements especially in the curved areas.

d. rebuild mesh: to rebuild the selected elements to the desired mesh criteria.

Step 6. After making the mesh under the desired criteria, the mesh is projected with the symmetrical plane with duplicate option is selected while selecting the elements.
