Week 6-Meshing of Hood Challenge
The meshing of Hood Challenge
Objective: To mesh the given component by following mentioned quality criteria.
Theory:
A car hood s the hinged cover that rests over the engine of a front-engine vehicle. Its purpose is to provide access to the engine for repair and maintenance. Car hoods are typically constructed from steel and sometimes from aluminum. The hood release system is common on most vehicles and typically consists of an inner hood latch/lock handle, a hood release cable, and a hood lock assembly. The hood lock handle is usually located under the steering wheel, next to the driver’s seat, or in the door frame.
Problem specification:
Follow the below-mentioned quality criteria, mesh the component and assign thickness:
Target Element Length = 5 Units
| S.N | Quality Criteria | Value |
| 1 | Aspect Ratio | 5 |
| 2 | Skewness | 45 |
| 3 | Warping | 15 |
| 4 | Taper | 0.5 |
| 5 | Min. Length | 2 Units |
| 6 | Max. Length | 8 Units |
| 7 | Min angle Quad | 45 |
| 8 | Max angle Quad | 135 |
| 9 | Min angle Tria | 20 |
| 10 | Max angle Tria | 120 |
| 10 | Tria % | 10 |
Procedure:
- Import the given component.
- Delete the solids present in the model
- extract the mid surface
- Perform the geometry clean up
- Provide washer splits wherever necessary using the quick edit option
- Provide the mesh quality criteria
- Go to 2D auto mesh and generate the mesh.
1)Inner extract

2)Outer extract

3)Latch reinforcement

4) Hinge reinforcement

- Now go to the quality index and analyze the mesh quality
- use Place node, smooth, element optimize, and other clean-up tools.
Result:
1)Inner extract

2)Outer extract

3) Latch reinforcement

4) Hinge reinforcement
