Week 6 - CHT Analysis on a Graphics card

Aim:-

To perform a steady-state conjugate heat transfer analysis on a model of a graphics card.

Introduction:-

Geometry:-

Graphic card:

Base:

Processor:

Heat Sink:

Enclosure:

Note:- The share topology shall be enabled.

Meshing:-

We will mesh our model, since before meshing we will assign the name of each part of the body so that it will be easier to mesh as a name selection.

for general body we will be meshing my 3 mm, base meshing by 2mm, processor and fins meshing by 1mm.

for reference the image has been attached below.

ANSYS Fluent:-

we shall be using double precision and 2 processor as per my PC configuration

Domain->mesh->check the mesh quality

Solver type->pressure based

Velocity formulation->absolute

Time->steady

select the energy and in viscous we will be selecting K-omega.

we will be selecting the material for our model as shown below,

create the material->fluent data base(material type-fluid or solid)->search as per our requirement ->copy->close.

Zones->select the zone then we will see the cell zone conditions->In that select any zone and click on edit to view the selection parameters.

Setting Source properties for the Heat Dissipation :

Taking the Heat dissipation from the processor of 10 Watts.

For the Processor dimensions 8mmx8mmx1mm

formula:- Heat generation rate=power/volume

Calculating Power Density -
100/(0.08*0.08*0.001) = 15625000 W/m^3

Now assigning the boundaries condition,

Zone->Boundaries condition

for iteration 200

case 2:- for velocity 3m/s

case3:- for velocity 5m/s
