Week 6 Challenge

Utility loads are also important load for bridges. Bridge carries many utilities besides traffic, like electric lamp post, Sign boards, Pipes carrying gas or water etc. Thus, utility load should also be considered with vehicular load. Utility loads are point load.

Here a bridge of 24m span over Narmada river carries two DI pipes one is 200mm dia and other is 700mm dia. bridge width is 3m. What pipes are carrying is not mentioned. So dead load may be calculated.

Pipe dia, d = 700mm

Pipe Type = K9 DI pipe

Span L = 24.00m = 24000mm
Self weight of DI pipe

For 700mm and class K9 weight 253.39kg/m supposed

0.253kN/m

For 24m span bridge 0.253kN/m X 24.00m

6.08kN

Pipe dia, d = 200mm

Pipe Type = K9 DI pipe

Span L = 24.00m = 24000mm
Self weight of DI pipe

For 200mm and class K9 weight 45.28kg/m

0.04528kN/m

For 24m span bridge 0.04528kN/m X 24.00m

1.09kN
