Week 5 Sphere pressing on a plate

SPHERE PRESSING ON A PLATE

OBJECTIVES:

In this challenge, we have to perform the analysis to simulate a sphere pressing on a plate by using Structural steel for both sphere and plate but the material of the plate must be Non-Linear. Press the sphere onto plate 4mm downwards and retract it.

In this challenge, we have to perform the analysis to simulate a sphere pressing on a plate by using Structural steel for both sphere and plate but the material of the plate must be Non-Linear. Press the sphere onto plate 4mm downwards and retract it.

select the material:

structural steel for both component but for the plate it should be non linear :

  • Then we have to import our model into ansys, import the model and open it in space claim so that ansys will read it.

1) material selection :structural steel

2) Geometry: Import from the folder

3) model : Edit

model itself will edit and simulate the parameter

  • selection of the step as follows
  1. Material Apply
  2. Geometry
  3. Model
  4. Setup
  5. Solution
  6. Result

selection of the step as follows

  1. Material Apply

plate :

structural steel

sphere:

structural steel non linear

  1. Geometry
  1. Model

geometry rename:

1) Plate

2) sphere

  • Then assign required connections in this assignment we will use frictional contact between the sphere and plate.

mesh:

accept the mesh generated automatically

Inpute for the static structural :

1.Analysis setting

2. Fixed support

3. Displacement

1)Analysis setting :

number step 1
Auto timing step off
Solver type Direct
LArge deflection on

Fixed support : Plate

2) Displacement:

4mm as per required in this case

Solution we need to take :

1)Directional deformation :

2) Equivalent stress :

3) Equivalent Elastic strain

4) Equivalent Elastic strain 2

1)Directional deformation :

2) Equivalent stress :

3) Equivalent Elastic strain

4) Equivalent Elastic strain 2:

Result for the solution :

1)Directional deformation : 4.2177e-002mm

2) Equivalent stress : 392.36MPa

3) Equivalent Elastic strain : 4.0723e-003

4) Equivalent Elastic strain 2: 4.0723e-003

Conclusion :

The plastic deformation is captured which is equal to 4.2177e-002mm

I have attached the solution file with this report
