Week 5 Sphere pressing on a plate

Simulation of sphere pressing on a plate in ansys workbench.

Objective:

To simulate a sphere pressing on a plate. Use Structural steel for both sphere and plate but the material of the plate must be Non Linear. Press the sphere onto plate 4mm downwards and retract it. The plastic deformation must be captured.

aim is to find plastic deformation.

Material:

For block,

For sphere,

Mesh:

no of nodes:1975

no of elements:503

Contact Details:

frictional contact is provided between sphere and the block with frictional coefficient of 0.74.

Boundary Conditions:

the sphere is provided with displacement of 4 mm in negative direction of y axis and the block is fixed at bottom at face A.

Analysis Settings:

Results:

Total Deformation in block:

Equivalent Plastic Strain in block:

Direction Deformation in Y axis of block:

Equivalent Stress:

Conclusion:

Plastic deformation was observed with plastic strain as 1.641 and max deformation in negative y direction 3.5403mm.

This happened due to the non linear structural steel material of the plate.
