Week- 5 - Solid meshing

Aim: To mesh the given rear view component and check the given quality criteria. Also perform the solid meshing by using tetra elements and check for the tet collapse.

Procedure:

1. The beginning step is to check the topo of the given component. Topo is used to solve any single cons and any free edges are present in the model. Topo accessed by Top deck> faces>topo.

2. after the topology clean up we have to do the orientation of the component to maintain the same orientation. command is topo deck> Faces > orient.

3. Before going to meshing we have to do the geometry check foe the component. The geometry check is used to clear the abnormalities on the component. command is checks > geometry > execute. After that any select all entities and fix it.

4. To maintain the resolution of the component use mesh deck and preimeter length as 1mm.

5. After that the mesh parameters and quality criteria is updated as per given in the model.

 6. Since some regions might fail for minimum tool, they can be modified by taking care of the boundaries (cons). The cut tool can be used to suppress some of these cons and in other regions, we can create cuts. All this to ensure the mesh generated would be favorable and does not fail for any of the criteria. This is otherwise known as defeaturing.

7. The meshing is carried out on the given component as per the given quality criteria. a command is Meshdeck > mesh generation > best is used. In the flat area without any complicated area, we used tria elements and in the fillet and curvey region, we used an ortho tria element.

After meshing is completed we have to do the reconstruction of the mesh.

8. the 2d meshing is completed we have to do the solid meshing. In this we used a tetra mesh(unstructured mesh). we have to create a PID for the volume creation. after that we have to do remesh.

 Final Model:

Learning outcome:

1. Learnt about the solid meshing as per the given criterias.

2. The different tools used for the solid meshing is learnt.

3. Learnt about the how to clear the failed elements.

result:

The given component was geometrically fixed and meshed as per the given requirements and criteria and the generated shell mesh was used to create the solid mesh. Quality and flow were achieved and care was taken to ensure there were no deformations of any kind on the surface.
