Week 5:- Rest Unit & Clamp Unit Design Challenge

CLAMP UNIT DESIGN;

A clamp unit is a unit designed to clamp /hold the car panel with NC blocks/Mylar / Rest by using a pneumatic clamp cylinder.

Here the different parts of clamp unit shown below;

FINGER;

A finger is a NC Block,which is mounted on the clamp Arm of the cylinder and will press the car panel towards the rest,so that it holds the car panel.

REST OR MYLAR:

A rest is a NC block,which is fixed to the unit to support the car panel.Also it resist the clamp force of the finger and the clamp of car panel.

Clamp Arm:

A clamp arm is a bought out part to its all the movable parts are fixed in general a clamp arm is a part of clamp cylinder

• Clamp arm are different to the different bore of the cylinder.
• Clamp arm are available in different hole pitch.

Clamp cylinder;

A clamp cylinder is a pneumatic device works with pressurised air.The clamp cylinder is used to open and close the part fixed to the clamp arm to the clamp body.

• Clamp cylinders are in general 40,50,63 and 80 bore capacity.
• Opens upto 135 degree for horizontal clamp mounting.
• Opens upto 105 degree for vertical clamp mounting.

ASSEMBLED CYLINDER UNIT;

L'BLOCK AND SUPPORT BLOCK;

Both l block and support block or spacer is used the finger and rest/mylar ,in between these shim pack will be add to adjust the blocks.

RISERS;

Risers is used to mount the cylinder and attached in base unit ,in cylinder the clamp unit will be mounted, we normally standard risers and a we manufacture based on the working features and cost saving the fixture.

REST UNIT DESIGN;

• Rest unit design is a unit to hold the car panel ,also it resist the clamp force of the finger with the help of rest mylar&thus clamp of car panel.

• Rest unit consist of rest mylar,shim packs and risers.

• Holding force should be considered while designing a rest unit.

• Mostly to avoid excess part,to reduce the weight and to reduce the cost of fixture,when the rest unit is combined with clamp unit.
