Challenge

Week - 5 - Modelling Spotwelds

Aim: To model the connection between two shells using

1. Beam Spot Welds

2. Solid Spot Welds

Define the time of failure of the Beam & Solid Spot Welds. In this case it is 2 ms.

Also Construct the Rigid Wall Geometric Flat Display as we did for the Challenge 4 and also provide initial velocity of 13.89 mm/ms to the two Shells

Solution:

Model with Beam Spot Welds

Model with Solid Spot Welds

Mat 100 Spot Weld Material for both Beam & Solid Spot Welds Failure Time Set to Two Milli Seconds

Rigid Wall for both Beam & Solid Spot Welds

Beam Solid and Shell Section Definition

Contact Slave Beam Spot Welds to Master Shells (Contact Tied Shell Edge to Surface)

Contact Slave Solid Spot Welds to Master Shells (Contact Spot Weld)

Shell to Shell Contact ( Automatic Single Surface Contact)

Results:

Failure of Welds Set to 2 milliseconds in both cases

Beam Spot Welds

Solid Spot Welds

Faiure Time 2ms
