Week 3 - 2D meshing for sheet metal

  1. Geometry checks were performed on both the hood and housing parts and all the errors were fixed prior to proceeding with the model
  2. The Midsurface extraction in one shot using the feature angle of 45 deg select option for both the hood and the housing parts
  3. In both the hood and housing parts only one half of the model was used (by deleting the other symmetric half) to take advantage of symmetry in the models.
  4. Geometric cleanup was done for the housing part in all the complex fillet regions and an average perimeter length and macro element length of 3 mm was taken for meshing the housing parts.
  5. After reflection 69404 quads (94.33 %), 4173 trias (5.67 %) and 1336 off elements (1.82 %) were obtained in the housing after meshing
  6. For the hood an average perimeter length and macro element length of 5 mm was taken for meshing.
  7. For the hood after reflection 47916 quads (98.92 %), 524 trias (1.08 %) and 16 off elements (0.03 %) were obtained.
  8. Finally a thickness of 0.75 in the PIDS for the shells created were assigned and the visualization was enabled in the quality criteria (presentation parameters draw shell as solid)
  9. Please find attached the compressed file of the Final Ansa Part
