Week 5 Challenge : Surface wrap on Automotive Assembly
Aim:
To perform geometry clean-up of the three parts to an extent surface wrap can be developed.

Objectives:
1. To perform geometry cleanup of the Engine, gear box and transmission box.
2. To merge the parts
3. To perform the surface wrap with a mesh size of 3mm.
Procedure:
- Initial geometry check was performed for single cons and triple cons.
- Irrelevant surfaces that are inside the parts are deleted.
- Boolean operations were used to identify the irrelevant operations and are deleted.
- The parts are then merged into a single large part.
- The holes which may affect the surface wrap should be closed using new surfaces.
- Irrelevant PID’s are compressed.
- Select constant length From the Elementsà wrapàConstant length
- Choose 3 mm and select all the PID’s. In this case 102 PID’s.
- Then apply the surface wrap.
Result:
- Geometry clean-up was performed on the half of the car body
- Parts are merged as shown in the figures.
- Meshing was performed using surface wrap method.
Conclusion:
- Geometry cleanup should be performed before meshing.
- Holes were closed to optimise the surface wrap.
- Development of surface wrap after merging the parts.
