Week 5 Challenge : Surface wrap on Automotive Assembly

Surface wrap on Automotive Assembly

AIM:

The aim of this project is to surface wrap the automotive assembly. The CAD models are here

Engine

Gear Box

Transmission

Objectives:

The objectives of this project are

  • To check for the geometrical errors and delete surfaces that are unwanted for the surface wrap.
  • To Merge all 3 models and perform surface wrap after clearing geometry.

  • The target length for Wrap should be set to 4 mm.

Why we do surface wrap?

when we have so much of complex geometry and we can not solve all the errors one by one and we have to do surface meshing then we use a surface wrap.

METHOD:

First let us load the engine.

Now we have to delete all the errors and other unwanted surfaces by box select and we will fill all holes by planer option so that we can make it a one volume.

We have done it . We will do same thing for transmission and gear box.

Transmission:

Before:

After deleting triple cons and filling the holes by planer option we get

Gear Box:

Load gear box model

After doing same changes

Now we will start file marging

We will merge three file one by one

So we can see above merged picture.

Now we are going to do surface wrap, to do that go to mesh mode - elements- wrap - constatnt length. Before wrap compress the PIDs.

First double click on empty then double click on untitled

Then take mesh length as 4 , give name wrap and ok

Then double click on contents - 0

Then click on all PIDs by ctrl+A then click on the green button and ok

Then click on RUN

Conclusion:

The surface wrap is achieved on the given powertrain components with a total of 613668 elements. The surface is easier to perform since it does not depend on the quality of the wrap on each material as we are not interested in physics in the body. The effective surface wrap is achieved on the given body for a given mesh length of 4mm.
