Surface wrap on Automotive Assembly
AIM
To clean the topo of the given engine, gearbox and transmission models, merge them and create a surface wrap around them with mesh element target length as 3mm.
PROCEDURE
- After opening the given model files, using the tools under the topo deck, clean the exterior of the engine, gearbox, and transmission.
- Since the parts are being prepared for surface wrap, it is important to ensure there are no open holes/cut-outs in them.
- All exterior parts which are very small, not used or not relevant to the surface wrap are deleted.
- It is noted here that the gearbox and transmission have no major visible changes after topo cleanup compared to the engine.
- Once the parts are ready, they are merged into a single file.
- All PIDs which do not have any parts assigned to them are removed by using the compress tool.
- Under the mesh deck, wrap tool (under elements) is used with the option of constant length.
- Under status of the, mesh length is set to 3mm and under contents, all the PIDs are selected and wrap tool is run.
- Now, the required surface wrap is ready.

CONCLUSION
For all the models, exterior topo is cleaned and they are merged. The surface wrap is done with mesh target length of 3mm. The mesh has a total of 776982 tria elements.
