Week 5 Bending of iPhone
Report Week5 Bending of Iphone
Aim: Run 2 cases for iphone bending process
Case 1: Simulate the model as it is given in the video
Case 2: Move the bottom fingers from their defined position to the given position X= 22.5mm & Z= 10mm and obtain the results for the simulation. Also define the S-N curve for the Aluminium Alloy material as per values given below and determine the fatigue life results for the same.
The results should include:
- Obtain the directional deformation for the model
- Factor of Aluminium Alloy NL
- Life of the Aluminium alloy for the case
- Compare the results and present with the conclusion.
Procedure:
case 1:
Material: Add Structral Steel (fingers), Al Alloy NL (frame) and Polyethylene (inside), add new material Glass (display)

Result
Directional Deformation in Y axis - Frame

Equivalent Stress - Frame

Equivalent Strain - Frame

case 2:
Add S-N curve to AL Alloy NL

Move the bottom fingers from their defined position to the given position X= 22.5mm & Z= 10mm

Result:
Directional Deformation in Y axis - Frame

Equivalent Stress - Frame

Equivalent Strain - Frame

Fatigue safety factor - Frame

Fatigue life - Frame

Conclusion:
Both cases are simulated as requested. Results are shown above.
Compare case 1 and case 2:
| Max Deformation Y axix | Max Stress | Max Strain | Fatigue safety factor | Fatigue life | |
| case1 | 5.32 | 619.15 | 0.00879 | NA | NA |
| case2 | 4.42 | 388.33 | 0.00631 | 0.2-10.9 | 0-1e8 |
It is observed that the max deformation, max stress and max strain of case 1 are more than case 2, because in case 2 pushing fingers are at middle of frame. Case 1 has no fatigue information because there is no S-N curve of frame.
