Week 5 Bending of iPhone

Objective: To simulate the bending of iPhone for the following two cases:

  1. Case 1: Pressing fingers at their respective default positions.
  2. Case 2: Pressing fingers displaced by 22.5 mm along `x` and 10 mm along `z` from their respective default positions.

Procedure:

  1. Contacts (1 to 5):
  2. Contacts (6 to 10):
  3. Contacts (11 to 15):
  4. Contacts (16 to 17):
  5. Joints (1 to 5):
  6. Joints (6 to 10):
  7. Meshing (Default Mesh Size):
  8. Boundary Conditions:
    1. Case 1:
    2. Case 2:

Analysis:

  1. Case 1:
    1. Directional Deformation:
    2. Safety Factor:
    3. Life:
  2. Case 2:
    1. Directional Deformation:
    2. Safety Factor:
    3. Life:

Result:

Cases Directional Deformation (mm) Safety Factor Life (Cycles)
Maximum Minimum Maximum Minimum Maximum Minimum
Case 1 5.7265 -0.87086 15 0.38467 1×10^8 0
Case 2 4.5289 -0.31194 15 0.63322 1×10^8 0

Conclusion: The maximum directional deformation is greater in case 1 than case 2. The minimum safety factor is greater in case 2 than case 1. Fatigue life is similar in both cases.
