Challenge

Week 4 -Wire Bending Challenge

Aim-To Simulate bending of wire for three different materials.

Procedure-

1.we add three nonlinear materils in the engineering data such as magnesium alloy, copper alloy and the alumnium alloy.

2.we rename the compmoments such as wire, lever and the wheel and to the wire we add the the copper, alluminum and magnesium alloy as material.

3.we will create the contact beween the lever and wire and another contact is bewteen the wheel and wire we choose the contact of having more stifness and target having less stifness and in the first case the wire is considered as the contact and the lever as the target and in second case we provide coNTACT TO THE WHEEL AND target to the wire. we give contact type as frictional contact and factor of .2

4. we wil provide fixed support to the wheel and to thebottom face of the wire and the revoltional joint to the lever .

5.we will mesh the wire and the lever of elemtal size 2.2 mm and we provide co-odrinate axies between the wheel and the wire by offsting in x to the distance of 3mm and the by offseting the z axies to the distance of -3mm. and we create the sphere of radius 7mm at the center of the new coordinnate axies and we provide elemntal sizeof 1 mm between the wheel and the wire. and we will golbal elmental size of 3mm and we genrerate mesh.

6.in analysis setting we provide number of steps to 8 . for the first time step we provide intial time step as 0.1 and minimum time of 1e-002 and maximum time step of 0.2 sec and for remaining time step we provide maximum tine as 1 sec.

7.we will provide rotation to the lever at every time step of 20 degree.

8. and we solve for equivalent stress for the wire and equivalrnt strain for the wire.

case 1 - For copper alloy

case 2-For magnesium alloy

case 3-Alumnium allloy

Material Equinalent stress(mpa) Equivalent strain
Copper 661.81 2.97e-2
MAgnesium 481.51 5.792e-2
Allunium 448 6.397e-3

Conclusion From the graph the the upper yielding point the stress for the copper is 661.1 mpa and for the magnesium the the stress is 481.51 mpa and for the allumniumalloy the stress is 448 as stress is more less deformable hence copper has less deformable than the two other matrials hence copper is better matrial for the wire compared to the other material.
