Week 4 -Wire Bending Challenge
Aim: To perform an analysis to simulate the bending of a wire of different material and to determine Equivalent stress and Equivalent strain on the wire alone.
Model:
The materials used are Copper Alloy NL, Aluminium Alloy NL and Magnesium Alloy NL.
Meshing:
As a whole the mesh element size is default. The contact surfaces are given a sizing of 2.2 mm and the meshing is in tetrahedrons. The area of contact of the wire to the wheel is set to 0.8 mm by choosing a sphere of influence (r =7 mm) at the make shift coordinate system.
Observation:-
Case I : Copper Alloy NL
a) Equivalent stress -
b) Equivalent strain -
Case II : Aluminium Alloy NL
b) Equivalent Stress -
b) Equivalent strain -
Case II : Magnesium Alloy NL
b) Equivalent Stress -
b) Equivalent strain -
Results : -
| Copper | Alloy NL | Aluminium | Alloy NL | Magnesium | Alloy NL | |
| MAX | MIN | MAX | MIN | MAX | MIN | |
| Equivalent Strain | 0.0033 | 7.18e-8 | 0.0046 | 6.33e-8 | 0.0056 | 6.25e-8 |
| Equivalent Stress | 360.69 | 0.0038 | 326.89 | 0.0027 | 253.27 | 0.0017 |
Conclusion :
From the above table it is clear to see that stress for Magnesium Alloy is the least where as strain is highest. Copper wire has the highest stress value.
