Challenge

Week 4 -Wire Bending Challenge

OBJECTIVE:-

To perform an analysis to simulate the bending of a wire in ANSYS. You will have to use Copper Alloy (Non-Linear), Aluminium Alloy (Non-Linear) and Magnesium Alloy (Non-Linear) for the wire alone. You need to find out the Equivalent stress and Equivalent strain on the wire alone. Compare the results

CASE SETUP AND EXECUTION:-

1. First open the Ansys workbench.

2. Goto toolbox select the analysis systems and double click on the static structural as shown below.

3. Next the required material by using the Engineering data.

4. Next right click on the Geometry select import geometry click on browser select the required file.

5. Next right click on the model click on the edit.

6. See the Mechanical new tab on your window as shown below.

7. Assign the required materials for geometry components.

8. Next create the contacts as shown below.

9. Next create a joint as shown below.

10. Next generate the Mesh as shown below.

11. Next going to analysis settings give the required time as shown below.

12. Next create the Fixed supports and joint as shown below.

13. Next right click on the solution select the solve the simulation is run.

Case1 Copper NL 342.04 0.0031766 342.04 0.0031766
Case2 Aluminium Alloy NL 312.23 0.0044133 312.23 0.0044133
Case3 Magnesium Alloy NL 476.56 0.010733 476.56 0.0058448

CONCLUSION:-

Based on the simulation results, magnesium Alloy Non-linear material Equivalent Stress is higher as compared to the remaining two materials
