Week 4 -Wire Bending Challenge
Objective: To perform static structural analysis of bending of a wire in the following cases:
- Case 1:
- Wire: Copper Alloy NL
- Wheel: Structural Steel
- Lever: Structural Steel
- Case 2:
- Wire: Aluminum Alloy NL
- Wheel: Structural Steel
- Lever: Structural Steel
- Case 3:
- Wire: Magnesium Alloy NL
- Wheel: Structural Steel
- Lever: Structural Steel
Procedure:
- Contacts and Joints:

- Meshing:
- Case 1:
- Case 2:
- Case 3:

- Boundary Conditions:

Analysis:
- Case 1:
- Equivalent Elastic Strain:

- Equivalent Stress:

- Equivalent Elastic Strain:
- Case 2:
- Equivalent Elastic Strain:

- Equivalent Stress:

- Equivalent Elastic Strain:
- Case 3:
- Equivalent Elastic Strain:

- Equivalent Stress:

- Equivalent Elastic Strain:
Result:
| Cases | Equivalent Elastic Strain (mm/mm) | Equivalent Stress (MPa) | ||
| Maximum | Minimum | Maximum | Minimum | |
| Case 1 | 0.0029292 | 7.863×10^-8 | 321.76 | 0.0050058 |
| Case 2 | 0.0045414 | 7.8455×10^-8 | 321.35 | 0.0031059 |
| Case 3 | 0.0057244 | 8.0892×10^-8 | 256.47 | 0.0019395 |
Conclusion: The equivalent elastic strain comes out to be maximum for case 3 whereas the equivalent stress comes out to be maximum for case 1.
