Week - 4 - crash box simulation

AIM: To find out the simulation using various deliverables in crashbox.

EXPLANATION:

  • Given data for simulation of model used is aluminium material .
  • Thickness of the crashbox used is 1.2mm and 1.5mm.
  • Termination time = 3seconds.
  • Velocity of impact =50kmph.
  • Contact type used is automatic single surface.
  • Density of aluminium =2.7g/m3.

ANIMATION OF THE FINAL SIMULATION

  • CRASHBOX WITH 1.2MM THICKNESS:

kinetic energy:

After collision kinetic energy is dropped to 0.42 at 0.5 seconds.

Internal energy:

Internal energy is increased to 43 at between 1.5 to 1 seconds.

Total energy:

Cross sectional force generated in the middle of the crashbox

  • ACCELERATION PLOT OF A NODE(4861) 1.2MM THICKNESS:

Acceleration drop of a node between 0.5 to 1 sec is decreased to -30, and from 1.5 sec acceleration is increased to 12 at 2.6 seconds.

  • ACCELERATION PLOT OF A NODE(4861) 1.5MM THICKNESS:

Acceleration drop of a node between 0.5 to 1 sec is decreased to -30, and from 1.5 sec acceleration is increased to 12 at 1.9 seconds and there by decreasing.

By compairing the above acceleration plots the difference makes is thickness.

Stress of 1.2mm thickness

Maximum stress generated in the crashbox of 1.2mm thickness is 9.71e+02.

Stress of 1.5mm thickness

Maximum stress generated in the crashbox of 1.5mm thickness is 1.304e+03.

conclusion: In this simulation no strain is generated and various deliverables are shown in the above plots.
