- What is the difference between mapped and dynamic model of engine, motor and generator? How can you change model type?
ANS:
Mapped and Dynamic Models of engine , motor and generator
Powertrain Blockset provides two types of combustion engine models: mapped and dynamic.
Mapped engines represent macro engine behavior as a set of lookup tables (brake torque, fuel flow, air mass flow, exhaust temperature, efficiency, and emissions) as functions of co
mmanded load and measured engine speed. Dynamic engines decompose engine behavior into individual component models that account for engine dynamics, most notably intake airflow and turbocharger dynamics.
we can switch between engine model types based on our application. Dynamic engine models are suitable for designing control, estimator, and diagnostic algorithms that depend on
dynamic subsystem states, for example, in closed-loop AFR control algorithm development. Mapped engine models are suitable for analysis and design activities that do not require engine
subsystem dynamic characteristics, for example, in engine and transmission powertrain matching analysis for fuel economy, emissions, and performance tradeoffs.

Mapped and Dynamic Models of motor
The Mapped Motor block implements a mapped motor and drive electronics operating in torque-control mode.
The output torque tracks the torque reference demand and includes a motor-response and drive-response time constant.
The mathematical model of an electric machine represents all the equations that describe the relationships between
electromagnetic torque and the main electrical and mechanical quantities. The mathematical models with concentrated parameters are the most
popular and consequently employed both in scientific literature and practice. The equations stand on resistances and inductances, which can be used further for defining magnetic fluxes,
electromagnetic torque.
FOR genearator :
Mapped Geneartor :
this is also similar to mapped motor modelling where the input values for generator blocks are
predefined or taken from the lookup table here also simulation times is very less.
Daynamic Geneartor :
This means also represent an actual generator working in a real-time enviorment , where the
output valuees calculated continously according to change in input values as the equation is implementing.
simulation time is more compared to the mapped generator.
To changed model type from mapped to dynamic or dynamic to mapped
- after enetring into passenger block > electric plat > moto will get this window where MotGenMapped is by
default selected as a model types for motor.

-To change from MotGenMapped to MotGenEVdynamic
- First we open our reference model into matlab here we are choosing EV as an example

then after clicking on the modeling section and after that in the design block, we will select the variant manager
option
-after the varient manager window gets opened.

then by clicking on the passenger car expand option there will electric plant option that will expand that too in that will get both battery and motor
- we are taking motor as an example so after expanding the motor option we get
1) MotGenEVdynamic
2) MotGenMapped
so the default one is MotGenMapped to change into MotGenEVdynamic

we need to right click on our prefrence and after that, a pop up will be shown in which we need to select set as abel mode
active choice and after that our variant will be MotGenEVdynamic
-same we can do for the battery to
- varify whether its change or not will return to our model and open passenger block > electric plant > motor and clicking on the motor block will get this window.

as we can see we changed our variant from MotGenMapped to MotGenEVdynamic
- a same procedure we can do for changing variant from MotGenEVdynamic to MotGenMapped for both battery and motor.
How does the model calculate miles per gallon? Which factors are considered to model fuel flow?
ANS: how many miles per gallon a car would cover. It also calculates the total cost of fuel for a trip. Gas mileage calculator estimates your fuel expense on a daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly basis and suggests the best mileage for you to save a certain amount of money. If you want to go for a trip, you can calculate your fuel mileage by using this miles per gallon.
To calculate the fuel flow , vehicle speed & battery power are taken into considerration.
HEV model has separate block to calculate the MPG which are shown below.

The above MPG calculation is for HEV which means it contains both fuel and battery energy.
- First , we get baterry power in watt which is converted into kwatt and further converted into kw/h
then it is converted into us gallon equivalent energy by dividing it by the standard value 33.7 Then converted intob US gallon per second
It is multiplied by standard value 0.00378541 to get volume in meter cube per gallon and it is added to the fuel flow for total value as it is as HEV
Further meter Cube is converted into US gallon.
on the other hand, the speed of the vehicle is integrated to get distance and the distance which is in meter is converted into miles by multiplying the standard value 0.000621371.
Which factors are considered to model fuel flow:
- vehicle speed
- fule flow
- battery power
