Challenge

Week 4 Challenge

1. The Tooling direction is the direction in which the mold (core - moving and cavity- fixed) opens and closes.

2.

3. A parting line is the line of separation on the plastic part where the two halves of the plastic injection mold meet. The line actually indicates the parting 'plane' that passes through the part.

5.

6. Steps for creating the part

  • For creating the initial/dummy Tooling Axis, create a point on Class A Surface center. Create a line and Axis System at the point. Check whether the Class A is clearing the Tooling direction or not by doing the Draft Analysis for 10 deg.
  • Create a line at an angle of -11deg (minimum) to the first line. This is the Final Tooling Axis.
  • Create the Class B Surface by offsetting the Class A to the given distance. In this case, 4mm thickness
  • Repair the erroneous surfaces of Class B by using Multiple Section Surface and create a Join of the Class B
  • Create the Class C Surface by using Surface Modeling commands like Extract, Multiple Extract, Blend, Sweep with draft direction, Extrapolate, Trim, Join
  • Check for any gaps/surface discontinuities by using the Boundary command
  • Create the thickened Lens part by using the Closed Surface command in Part workbench

Steps for creating the Parting Line

  • Extract the edge of the thickened Lens part by using the Extract command.

Steps for doing the Draft Analysis

  • Go to the Material mode
  • Place the compass on the Tooling Axis
  • Lock and click on the surface
  • Interpret the Result of Draft Analysis
