Challenge

Week - 4 - 2D meshing for Plastic components

Aim: To extract the mid surface and mesh for the Bottle Cap.

Procedure:

1. First step is to import the geometry, orientation is checked.

2. Now geometry cleanup is done where all the needle and unchecked faces are removed.

3. Resolution is improved to get the actual representation of geometry and all the extra hot points are removed.

4. Now mid surfaces are generated.

  • First thickness of each part is measured.

  • Parts with uniform thickness are assigned with single pid.

  • Parts with non uniform thickness are assigned with seperate pid's by splitting the surface.

  • all pids with different thickness.

5. For repeated part mirror command (Transform+Rotate) is used. For that first two centre points at different heights are created then axis is generated using that part is mirrored about axis.

6. After mid surfacing we have to mesh the each part , before that we set the quality parameters.

7. FE model with and without thickness.

8. Complete model

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Learned how to generate mid surface for variable thickness part.
  2. Learned to generate centre axis for mirroring the part.
  3. Learned to mesh component under given quality criterias.

Conclusion:

After doing this challenge i can generate mid surface for any part with constant or variable thickness and generate a good mesh under given quality sets.
