Challenge

Week 3 - 2D meshing for sheet metal

Aim : To extract the mid surface and generate the mesh for the Hood.

Procedure:

STEPS:

1. First step is to import the geometry, geometry should be in the suitable format which is accepted by ANSA(eg:step,IGES).

2. After importing geometry cleanup is done where any triple coons , unchecked faces, needle faces are removed.

3. Resolution is also changed to see the actual representation of geometry.

4. Orientation is changed.

5. For assigning pid's thickness of each individual part at different points is calculated to check wheather part is of uniform thickness or not. After checking thickness each part with different thickness is assigned seperate PID(Property ID) and material properties.

6. Now i generated the mid surface. Here we have 5 seperate parts(2 big and 3 small) so the 2 big parts mid surface is generated by auto-midsurface command as they took to much time and smaller 3 parts i generated manually to practice the manual mid surfacing.

7. After mid surfacing we have to mesh the each part, so before meshing we set the quality criteria.

8. extra node points are removed using insert+ right mouse or delete .

9. now we meshed the each part. Here i tried to maintain the proper mesh flow, removed rotating quads , try to removed tri elements in fillet regions.

10. FE model with and without thichness.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Here I learned how to clean the geometry ( remove triple coons) or topo clean.

2. Learned how to removed tri elements using split and paste command.

3. Learned to improve the mesh flow.

4. Learned how to do auto-midsufacing on complex part to save time.

5. Learned to mesh component under given quality criterias.

Conclusion:

After doing this challenge i can do geometry cleanup , mesh of any 2d sheet metal or platic part under any set of quality criteria maintaing the good mesh flow.
