Week 4-1D Element Creation Challenge

AIM : To create 1D on the given geometry with specified croos section and DOF using hypermesh.

GIVEN SPECIFICATIONS : 1. Rod element : Dimension a = 12mm

Dimension b = 10mm

thickness t = 0.75mm

Translational DOF be Constrained with RBE2 link

2. Beam element : I section and All DOF be constrained with RBE3 link

Dimension a= 8 mm

Dimension b= 10 mm

Dimension c= 8.5 mm

Thickness t1= 0.75 mm

Thickness t2= .6 mm

Thickness t3= .6 mm

3. Bar element : X section and Constrain only x and y DOFs With RBE3 link

Dimension DIM1= 5 mm

Thickness DIM2= 1.2 mm

Dimension DIM3= 10 mm

Thickness DIM4= 1.2mm

d and e Apply the mass with magnitude 10 with the RBE2 link

f. join the two components with spring elements

PROCEDURE : A. Create mid surfaces for given component

1. select the component and create mid surface for the selected bracket by highlighting the bracket

2. likewise step1 create mid surface for the second bracket by highlighting.

3. delete the solid part and rename the midsurfaces with bracket 1 and bracket 2 respectively.

B. Mesh the components

1. create washer splits near hole region for smooth mesh of off set 5mm

2. generate the mesh with element size 5mm with mixed element type.

3. check for the quality of mesh with index and optimize.

C. Create Material

1. Opt for steel as material for this component with respective properties

E = 21000 and Nu = 0.3

D. Properties and Card id

Table indicates the property names and card ids assigned for brackets, elements and mass .

S.NO PROPERTY NAME CARD ID
1 Bracket_1 PSHELL
2 Bracket_2 PSHELL
3 Bar PBAR
4 Rod PROD
5 Beam PBEAM
6 Mass PMASS

E . Create 1D elements

1. Create 1D elements with respective cross section using hyper beam tool .

2. Assigned the dimensions to the geometry with given specifications .

3. Thus bar, rod and beam element are created using hypermesh tool .

BOX CROSS SECTION I CROSS SECTION X CROSS SECTION

F. Create rigid points and 1D elements on the respective rigid

1. create RBE2 and RBE3 at the holes with the help of nodes and allote given degrees of freedom

2. create 1d elements on the rigids respectively

3. update the elements with respect to properties assigned .

G. Create mass at node D and spring between two brackets .

FINAL MODEL REPRESENTATION OF ELEMENT :

CONCLUSION : Thus final required element is created with the specified specifications.
