Procedure:
1. “To Import the Geometry/Model”
To import the Geometry/Model we can use command
File>Import>Geometry/Model or we can also use the option directly from the Tool Bar
Imported CAD Geometry is as follows
As we can see from the component tree there are various components in the model
We will now check the Thickness of the Model for that we can use the command
Geometry > Distance
This particular Component has a Thickness of 0.75 mm and it’s a uniform thickness component so can conclude that this is a sheet metal component
2. “Auto-cleanup and Geometry Mid surface”
For Next step we will clean up the geometry using autocleanup Tool and also extract midsurface from the geometry
For Auto cleanup use command
Geometry>Auto cleanup
Autocleanup basically removes any unnecessary lines/edges/nodes or toggles them
Now to create the midsurface we have to use the command
“Geometry > Midsurface > Auto extraction & Auto Midsurface > Surface > Displayed> Extract “
Next Step is to Check the mid surface and fix errors if there are any
If there are any errors / Missing surfaces we can fix them using different tools such as
2D>Ruled
2D> Spline
Quick Edit
3. Since its a symmetric model, we can trim the model into two symmetric sections for that we will use the command
“Geometry > Quick edit > Split surf line/Node “
to use this option, we can select line or node, we will use split surface line option for that click on the line and the edge next to it to split the surface
Always look at the commands / status on bottom left corner to avoid any confusion
5. “To delete the half symmetric side ” for which we will use command
Tool > Delete > Surf
Deleted Surface looks as follows
6. “Create washer Split near the hole areas to get better mesh flow near edge. And for that we will use command”
Geometry > Quick Edit > Washer Split
7. “Suppress the Edges”
We will supress the unnecessary edges/lines and create new if there is a need using command
“Geometry > Quick edit > Toggle edge and Split surf line”
8. “Meshing of the Midsurface Component”
Next step is to Mesh the component according to the quality criteria given
for the we can use command
“Preferences > Criteria file setting”
After we have given the quality criteria, we can mesh the component for that we can use command
2D > Automesh
Input the given Target element Size as in this case it is 5 mm and we can also change the mesh type but it is better to keep it as mixed
After Meshing we can Fix the quality using 2D-Rebuild Mesh, Automesh, replace node align nodes or by using option in quality index Do the same for all the sections / areas.
9. “Reflecting the Mesh”
After Meshing we have to reflect our original Mesh so we can get the full meshed component Before using the reflect command use duplicate option and save duplicates in the original component
for reflect we can use command
Tool > Reflect, select the elements that are to reflected and reflect it.
After reflecting we have to check whether there are any free edges present
For that Use command
Tool > Edges > check for edges.
If there are any edges present then use Preview equivalence from the same tab and then click on Equivalence this may remove any edges from the geometry
10. “Removing free edges using Paste command”
After equivalence if still there are any free edges present use paste node option and paste the nodes. Command for that is,
2D > Replace Nodes or F3>Replace Nodes
11. “ Normals Check “
For checking Normals Go to,
Tool > Normals, select element, click on display and check.
If there are changes in meshed components colour we can fix that by clicking on Adjust
12. “Creating property and material cards”
We have to denote our model with proper material and all other properties for that we have to crate material and property cards and to also give thickness value,
Right Mouse Click > Create > Material / Property Assign Thickness to the property as 0.75 mm
after creating both property and material cards assign the Property and material to the Mid-Surface.
And assign those material and property cards to the midsurface
Right click on Midsurface > Assign
13. “Performing final Checks “
Next step is to perform final model check and check whether the mesh flow is good and also if there are any errors in mesh and overall component
Completed Model
Result:
“Meshing of the given component as per given quality criteria and target element length is done successfully.”
