Challenge

Week 3 - Geometry simplification of an Electronic enclosure assembly

Aim :

Have to clean up Raw geometry materials and convert them to Icepak understandable geometry.

Introduction of Challenge :

There were many objects which are non important to analysis. So need remove them and convert remaining geometry to Icepak primitive shapes. Many objects were overlapped with nearby objects which should be cleaned up.

Procedures :

Created work flow in workbench tool and saved them. The work flow will be start with geometry then icepak and results.

Then, opened given geometry file in spaceclaim,

Followed below steps to convert Geometry,

1.Removed unwanted fixtures :

Few Nuts and bolts were used which should not be needed for analysis. So I have removed them. Then, some enclosure part had curved edges and it was changed to filled edge for split the bodies. Removed extended bodies which was projected outside.

1.1 - Unwanted fixtures

1.1.1 - Removed unwanted fixtures

1.2 - Curved edges

1.2.1 - Removed curved edges

1.3 - Removed unwanted bolts

2.Split the Bodies and Simplification of Geometries :

Split entire objects using split option. Some times many objects were combined together and used as single object in CAD geometry. Few objects were overlapped and couldn’t split them. There I have created plane and split them.

2.1 - Before bodies split

2.1.1 - After bodies split

Once all component split, started to simply them and used four levels:

  1. Level 0 : Bounding box
  2. Level 1 : Cubit and Cylinder fit
  3. Level 2 : Polygon fit
  4. Level 3 : CAD Object

Based on requirement I have used simplification levels and converted entire geometry to icepak understandable shapes.

2.2 - Non-Icepak bodies

2.2.1 - Level 0 simplification

2.2.1 - Level 1 simplification

2.2.2 - Level 2 simplification

2.2.3 - Level 3 simplification

In both bottom and top enclosure, filled entire unwanted holes. Created opening and placed grills in space claim itself.

2.3 - Opening and Grills

Once done all clean ups saved space claim file as ice pack model file. Then, opened icepak file in workbench.

2.4 - Icepak layout
