Week - 3 Drop test Challenge
AIM : to perform drop test simulation of mobile phone on the rigid floor.
Procedure :
As the given model consists meshed model so no need to mesh so just carrying out the analysis is enough. So before carrying out the analysis we need to prepare the deck so the part, material, section, initial velocity, Boundary, Contact, control termination, database are created.
Material
For mobile phone steel property as been given. MAT024 Piecewise linear plasticity material card is assigned as this material card is like a standard type for elastic-plastic material.

For Rigid floor we really don’t care about the deformation and everything on the rigid floor. So MAT020 Rigid material card is used.

Section
Both the mobile phone and Floor as given solid section
Both materials and sections as been assigned to the respective parts.

Contact
We need to use Contact > Automatic surface to surface. Since the Mobile phone is dropped onto the floor so the contact as to be made with mobile phone and top surface of the floor so first slave node set and master node set as been created and that node set is assigned.

Boundary
Using SPC(single point constraint) locking all the degree’s of freedom for the floor.

Initial Velocity
Initial Velocity of 8mm/ms is applied in the -ve z direction.

Control
Termination is used to create the end time for the simulation to end.

Database
The required outputs are plotted like
Binary d3plot
ELOUT(Element data)
GLSTAT(Global data)
MATSUM(material energies)
SLEOUT(sliding interface energies)

Conclusion:
As per the instructions the drop test simulated and results are plotted.
