Challenge

Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool

Objective 1 : For EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle? Conclude your observations.

Description : Firstly we open an start the Advisor Tool in metric units.

As per given problen Load file 'EV_defaults_in'. And change cargo mass to 500.

Now click on continue,

Select drive cycle as 'CYC_FTP'  FTP ( federal test procedure)

and Set the number of cycles to 3. Since for one given cycle it covers 17.8 km there to cover 45 km or above we have to take minimum of 3 cycles.

Now clcik on Run.

We get a result figure, where we can see the distance covered. i.e 41.4 km

Distance covered is less than 17.8 x3 (km)  i.e (53.4 km)

The SOC ( state of charge) is nil after 41.4 km.

Can the vehicle travel 45 km with FTP drive cycle?

NO it can't.

Objective 2: In the above case, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation.

Lets chance the battery capacity

By changing the no. of modules in battery pack

Lets set it to double value i.e 50 from 25 . for better comparision.

Now set the number of cycles so that the SOC reaches zero. And observe the distance covered.

Thus we can compare both cases.

We can see for 5 number of drive cycles State of charge is 0.

Distance covered is 78.2.

41.4 x 1.88 = 78.2 (app.)

i.e When the no. of packs in module is doubled the distance travelled also get doubled almost.

Objective 3:

Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file

      Compare your results in table and conclude.

Description : Load the 'PRIUS_JPN_defaults_in

Click on continue

Check 'Constant road grade'

Check 'Gradeability test'

Under 'Grade options'  check 'all systems enabled'

Select the speed for whic you want to test gradability. [20 40 50 60] Miles/Hr

Click on run

1. Speed 20 miles/hr. ( 32.2 km/hr)

Gradeabilty 19.8 %

2. Speed 40 miles/hr

Gradeability = 11.7 %

3. Speed 50 miles/hr  (80.5 km/hr)

Gradeabiltiy = 9.7 %

4. Speed 60 miles/hr

Gradeability = 8.1 %

Listing below change in gradeability (%) with speed (Miles/Hr)

        Speed             Gradeabilty

1)         20                    19.8

2)         40                    11.7

3)         50                     9.7

4)         60                     8.1

From above , We can infer that with increase in speed there is decrease in gradeabilty.
