Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool
1. For EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle? Conclude your observations.
2. In the above case, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation.
3. Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file

ANSWERS:
A) THEORY OF ADVISOR:
- Introduction to ADVISOR Tool (Advance Vehicle Simulator):
1) Advisor tool is created by National laboratary for renewable energy (NREL) and department of energy USA.
2) Devolopment phase 1994 to 2004.
3) This tool are old but importance for today .
4) It is a steady state model and result quicks so its called rapid analysis.
5) Rapid analysis of the performance and fuel economy of conventional electric and hybrid vehicle.
6) this tool is uses for backgraund model uses backword flow.(Driving cycle to energy storage).
7) Vehicle model are mostly experiential,relaying on driven train train component input/output relationship measured in the laborotary.
8) This tool based on script file or M-file rather than model file.
9) This tool help us to understand vehicle performance and related data analysis easily.
- Benifits of ADVISOR:
1) Estimate the fuel economy of vehicle that not yet been built.
2) Learn about how conventional hybrid or electric vehicle use energy throghout their drivtrains.
3) compare relative tailpipe emission produced on number of cycles.
4) Evaluate an energy management strategy for your hybrid vehicle fuel converter
5) Optimize the gear ratios in your transmission to minimise fuel use and mximize performance.
- How to start ADVISOR Tool:
1) Firstly I download ADVISOR tool from https://sourceforge.net/projects/adv-vehicle-sim/
2) After download ADVISOR tool I extract that file .
3) Open MATLAB and set default location folder to the advisor.
4) Now in command window of MATLAB type "advisor" and press entre.
5) A new window will open and then set metric for unit and start advisor.
6) the new window is open.

- ADVISOR TOOL HAVE 3 WINDOW:
1. Vehicle Input window
2. Simulation parameter window.
3. Result window.
Q.1 For EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle? Conclude your observations.
ANSWER:
Firstly ADVISOR tool box is open then loading_EV_defaults_in form of the dropdown menu and changing parellel _default_in to EV_default_in from vehicle input window.
1) Change cargo mass to 500kg
2) then total mass of vehicle changed can be seen.
3) then click on continue button after new window simulation will pop up.

4) The above window will be opened In simulation parameter and changed mass 500kg.

5) In simulation parameter window change drive cycle to CYC_FTP by selecting the drop down menu.
6) below that I will see no.of cycle from here I can set my drive cycle.

7) After pressing RUN button simulation will start and show the result in the new window.

8) The distance travel by the vehicle in 1 drive cycle is 11 miles
1 miles=1.60934 is converted into kilometer i.e. 1.60934*11=17.70km.
threfore 1 drive cycle is 17.70km used almost 40% SOC.
9) Incresing number of cycle by 2 and get result of that as follows:

10) Result with 2 drive cycle :

11) The distance traveled by the vehicle in 2 drive cycle in 22miles is converted into kilometer:
1.60934*22=35.40548 km
threfore distance travel by vehicle in 2 drive cycle is 35.40km. used almost 81% SOC.
12) Incresing number of drive cycle to 3.

13) Result of 3 drive cycle:

the Distance traveled by the vehicle in 3 drive cycle is 25.7 miles which can be converted into km i. e. 1.60934*25.7=41.3600 km.used commonly 100 %SOC.
Conclusion:
| no.of drive cycle | distance covered in kms. |
| 1 | 17.70 |
| 2 | 35.40 |
| 3 | 41.36 |
The minimum distance traveled by car is 17.70km with drive cycle CYC_FTP_1 whereas the maximum distance travel by car is 41.36 km which consume 100% of batterey in 3 drive cycles.
therefore EV_default cannot travel distance of 45km due to insufficient SOC.
Q.2 In the above case, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation.
Answer:

In above simulation I have chnaged the battery the battery capacity from 25 to 50V.then click on continue button new window will be open. then I changed drive cycle into 4 and run it the result are shoen below i.e. 29.8 miles is covert into km therefore 1.60934*29.8=47.95km .

I can see that I incresing battery capacity the vehicle can travel for more than 47.95 km in same number of drive cycle similarly I decresed battery capacity the vehicle travel lesser distance.
Q.3 Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file Compare your results in table and conclude.
Answer:
TOYOTA PRIUS PARALLEL HYBRID VEHICLE:

TOYOTA PRIUS PARALLEL HYBRID VEHICLEi s a car built by Toyota which has a hybrid drivetrain, combining an internal combustion engine with an electric motor. It was initially offered as a 4-door sedan, it has been produced only as a 5-door liftback since 2003.
VEHICLE SPECIFICATIONS:
Power produced by IC E ngine: 43KW with fuel convertor efficiency of 0.39
Battery capacity: NMH( nickel metal hybride) battries have been used with 40 module producing nominal voltage of 308 V.
Gererator regerative: 15KW
Transmission: CVT
Drive : front wheel drive

1)To performed gradibility test I keep grade value constant and changed the speed value to find maximum gradebility at optimum speed simulation 10s.

2) Hence simulation is RUN with for gradebility test .

3) Hence my simulation is run with for gradibility test :
following are the output result:
CASE1:
speed =30mph
Distance=7.4 miles=1.60934*7.4=11.90km
Gradebility=2%
CASE 2:

speed =40mph
Distance=7.4 miles=1.60934*7.4=11.90km
Gradebility=2.5%
CASE 3:-

speed =55mph
Distance=7.4 miles=1.60934*7.4=11.90km
Gradebility=1.7%
CASE 4:

speed =65mph
Distance=7.4 miles=1.60934*7.4=11.90km
Gradebility=1.2%
| CASE NO. | SPEED MPH | GRADEBILITY IN % |
| 1 | 30 | 2 % |
| 2 | 40 | 2.5 % |
| 3 | 55 | 1.7 % |
| 4 | 65 | 1.2 % |
Hence speeds of 30 to 65 mph gives the variations in gradebility which make optimum speed to prius.
