Challenge

Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool

1.

AIM :-

Concluding the observation" For EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle ? "

PROCESS / STEPS :-

  • Open the advisor tool by typing "advisor" in the matlab command window. Then click start to open the advisor application.
  • Now search for the "EV_defaults_in" file from the load file and change the cargo weight form 136kg to 500kg as per the given question.
  • Then click on continue to open the simulation parameters. In the simulation parameter change the drive cycle to "CYC_FTP" and the number of cycles to 1 and click on run.
  • For 1 cycle the distance travelled will be 11 miles. Now click on back and change the number of cycles to check the maximum distance travelled. The distance become constant at the 3rd cycle with the distance travelled will be 25.7 miles. So the maximum distance travelled by changing the cargo weight is 25.7 miles which in km is 41.36km.

CONCLUSION :-

No the vechile can not travel to 45km as the maximum distance travelled for the vechile with 500 cargo weight will be only 41.36km. But in its default condition of cargo weight 136kg the vechile travelled for 48.28km. So with this experiment we can conclude that with increase in weight there is a loss in power for the vechile.

Distance travelled in default condition

Distance travelled with change in cargo weight(500kg)

2.

AIM:-

Keeping the above condition same of cargo weight 500kg and try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation and conclude your observation.

PROCESS / STEPS :-

  • We repeat the above same process till step 2. After changing the cargo weight to 500kg we need to change the battery capacity.
  • So the default battery capacity is 25 which we will first decrease and run the simulation and then we increase the battery capacity and run the simulation and note down the observation in both the cases.
  • So at first in the right hand side of the advisor window below the scale components we change the " number of modules" from 25 to 15 and click on continue to open the simulation parameters.
  • In the simulation parameter change the drive cycle to "CYC_FTP" and the number of cycles to 3 and click on run.
  • We can see that the maximum distancde travelled is 15.5 miles which is equal to 25km.
  • Now we repeat the same with the change in battery module to 35 and run the simulation. We observe the distance travelled is 33.1 miles which is equal to 53.26km.

CONCLUSION :-

After changing the batter capacity we came to a conclusion that with increase in battery capacity the vechile travelles for more distance. And when we dercrease the battery capacity the distance travelled also decreases.

3.

AIM :-

To perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file and conclude the answer on a table formate.

PROCESS / STEPS :-

  • Open the advisor tool and search for "PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in" from the load file. Then click on the file to load the file and after the file is loaded click on continue to open the simulation parameters.
  • In the simulation parameter select the "gradeability test" option and then click on grade options.
  • In the grade test advance option change the "enable/disable systems" from energy storage disabled to all systems enabled.
  • Now varry the speed from 1 to 100 and run the simulation and note down the values for the gradeability.

CONCLUSION :-

After this experiment we came to a conclusion that upto 10mph the gradeability increases then it starts to decrease. So if the speed is more then the gradeability is less. If the speed is less gradeability is more.
