Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool

1. For EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle? Conclude your observations.

The cargo mass is changed to 500kg from the default value of 136 kg.

The drive cycle chosen is FTP (Federal Test Procedure) and the maximum distance travelled is 17.7km.

So,In order to achieve 45 km of distance the FTP Drive Cycle to be repeated 2.55 times which will cover the distance of 45.135 km.we have consider the number of cycles to be 3.

On clicking RUN the 'Results Figure Window' apears. The graphs for 'Velocity', SOC, Emissions and Overall Ratio are displayed.

CONCLUSION:

From the above graph of SOC it is evident that the State of Charge reaches to 0% even before completing 3 full FTP Drive cycles. Under the fuel consumption tab it is seen that the distance travelled is displayed as 41.4 km. Also a warning message stating Required distance exceeded EV range is displayed. Hence it is confirmed that the EV car with a cargo mass of 500 kg canot travel a distance of 45 km FTP driving cycle.

2. In the above case, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation.

Loading file EV defalts in advisor tool and setting the Cargo mass 500 kg. In this case we will increase the number of battery modules by 15. Hence the total number of battery modules becomes 40 resulting in nominal voltage of 493 V.

Continue the Drive cycle window appears. Selecting 'CYC FTP' to be the drive cycle. Each FTP Drive Cycle last for a time

In the above image,the vehicle travels a distance of 46.5 km. Hence the 28 number of battery modules are sufficient to satisfy a range of 45 km according the problem description.

3. Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file

Compare your results in table and conclude.

Open the advisor tool and open the vehicle input in advisor simulator. Select the 'PRIUS_JPN_defaults_in' file load file option.

Then click continue to open the simulation parameter.Ther simulation parameter consists of different drive cycle and create a individual own drive cycle by giving different data to the simulink parameter like, Acceleration test,Gradeablity test etc.,

Now,Search any file from drive cycle list in advisor tool.Now select the drive cycle 'CYC_UDDS'

Now select Gradeablity tset in Grade option

CASE 1:

Speed =10 mph

Duration= 10 seconds.

All other parameters are set as default.

CASE 2:

Speed =20 mph

Duration= 10 seconds.

All other parameters are set as default.

CASE 3:

Speed =30 mph

Duration= 10 seconds.

All other parameters are set as default.

CASE 3:

Speed =30 mph

Duration= 10 seconds.

All other parameters are set as default.

CASE 4:

Speed =40 mph

Duration= 10 seconds.

All other parameters are set as default.

Conclusion:

From the above cases it is seen the Gradeablity has been testedvfor different speed values keeping the duration values as constant. The change in duration has no effect on the Gradeablity of the vehicle.
