Week 3 Challenge

Q.1)

1) Ans - The primary load cases to be considered for the design are -

  • Dead Load
  • Live Load
  • Wind Load
  • Earthquake Load

2) Ans -

The one-way slab is a slab,which is supported by parallel walls or beams,and whose length to breadth ratio is equal to or greater than 2 and it bends in only one direction while it is transferring the loads to the two supporting walls or beams,because of its geometry.

3) Ans -

  • The unit weight of structural steel is 7840 kg/m^3
  • The unit weight of soil is 18 kn/m^3

4) Ans -

  • Circular section
  • Rectangular section
  • Tee section
  • Trapezoidal section
  • General section
  • Tappered section

5) Ans -

Primary Beam - The beams that are connecting to columns for transferring loads of a structure directly to the columns are known as primary beams.Usually, primary beams are shear connected or simply supported and they are provided in a regular building structure.

Q.2)

1) Ans -

The factors that influence the design pressure intensity of a high rise building are -

  • K1 = Probability factor
  • K2 = Terrain height and structure size
  • K3 = Topography factor
  • Design wind pressure - The design wind pressure at any height above mean ground level shall be obtained by the following relationship between wind pressure and wind velocity

Pz = 0.6V^2

2) Ans -

The load transfer process of a reinforced concrete building -

  • Slab
  • Secondary beam
  • Primary beam
  • Columns
  • Foundations

Q.3)

1) Ans -

One way slab -

  • The ratio of the longer span to shorter span is greater than 2 is known as onw way slab.
  • Ly/Lx > 2
  • In one way slab,the bending moment occurs in a singular direction.

Two way slab -

  • The ratio of the longer span to the shorter span is less than or equal to 2 is known as two way slab.
  • Ly/Lx < 2
  • In two way slab,bending moment occurs in both direction.

2) Ans -

Secondary beam -

  • The beams that are connecting primary beams for transferring loads of a structure to the primary beams are known as secondary beam.
  • These beams are provided for supporting and reducing the deflection of beams and slabs.

3)

a) Ans -

Indian standards of each load case -

  • Dead load : IS 875 part 1
  • Live load : IS 875 part 2
  • Wind load : IS 875 part 3
  • Seismic load : IS 13927

b) Ans -

  • The parameter of dead load are 1) unit weight 2) volumn of the section that may be rectangular section,circular section etc.
  • The parameter of live load are depend on the building type residential building,commercial building,Industrial building,Area type room,Toilet room,Corridor,Roof etc.

c) Ans -

  • A load case is a combination of different types of load with safety factors applied to them.
  • A structure is checked for strength and serviceability against all the load cases it is likely to experience during its life time.

4) Ans -

  • Go to property section
  • Click on define materials
  • Select the section ,Rectangular section,Circular section etc
  • Select the material type concrete,steel,Aluminium
  • For rectangular section enter YD and ZD in the column below
  • Click add and close
  • Select the material type and assign to the selected views
  • For the support, Click on the support
  • Click on create
  • Select the type of support do we want to assign the section
  • Click on add close

5) Ans -

  • First create a simple model by using the node in STAAD Pro
  • Click on the create beam option and create a beam in the direction of X and Z axis

  • Click on any primary beam in the section
  • Right click and add new node in the beam section a node will be added
  • Again click on the create beam

Practical -

1) Ans -

Wind pressure, Pz = 0.6 Vz^2

Where,Vz = Vb*k1*k2*k3

Vb = Wind speed = 50

k1 = Risk coefficient = 1.0

k2 = Terrain height and structure factor = 1.12

k3 = Topography factor = 0.5

Vz = Vb*k1*k2*k3

= 50*1.0*1.12*0.5

= 28

Pz = 0.6*28^2

= 470.4

Wind pressure, Pz = 0.47 N/m^2

2) Ans -

The dead load of the section considering the section length 5m and width 0.23m

  • Dead load of the section= Unit weight *volumn of section
  • Unit weight = 25 Kn/m
  • Volumn of the section = 0.5*0.23*1 = 0.115 m^3
  • Dead load = 25*0.115 = 2.875 Kn/m
  • Live laod = Considering the general building ,

Bath rooms and toilets in all types of the building,kitchen

1) Deweling houses 2 - 1.8

2) Hostel,Hotels,Hospitals 3 - 4.5
