Challenge

Week 3 Challenge

1) Use the project file created from Week 2. Use it for this assignment. Based on your layout from week 2, using floor tool under architecture tab and select the floor with appropriate material and thickness using the property browser create a layout in the Ground floor Level. Align the floor plan with grids created from week 2.

Aim: To Create floor to the layout created from week 2 align with the grids.

Commands used:

  • Open
  • level 1
  • Floor
  • Edit type
  • marerials
  • Grids

Procedure:

  • Open the file created before in week 2
  • Click on ground floor in Floor plan from project browser
  • Click on floor from architecture tab
  • Choose pick lines from modify tab and choose the boundary lines of layout
  • We find our required floor created, click on the floor
  • Click on edit type
  • Select the appropriate material and required thickness from materials browser and click ok
  • Select the Grids created before and align to the floor

Result: Creation of floors and aligning with grids is shown.

2) Add walls based on the floor layout. Pick lines or use the draw tool to modify the boundary of walls. Use the property browser to select appropriate material and thickness for walls. After creating the walls verify using the property browser to see if the top and bottom of the walls are constrained.

Aim: To add walls to the floor created with appropriate materials and thickness and check whether the top and bottom of walls are constrained.

Commands used:

  • Architectural wall
  • Edit type
  • Materials
  • Properties
  • Constraints

Procedure:

  • Select architectural wall from architecture tab
  • Choose pick lines from modify and select the boundary lines of the layout to create wall
  • Select the wall created and click on edit type from properties browser
  • Select the appropriate material and required thickness from materials browser and click ok
  • Select all the walls and go to properties browser
  • Go to constraints and choose top constraint to level 2( first floor)
  • Click apply

Result: Adding walls to the floor with required material and thickness and constraining the walls is done.

a.Based on your observation, what is beneficial for connecting walls with associated levels rather than being Unconnected

Ans Connecting walls with associated levels is beneficial because the walls will change their height themselves when height of levels is changed , if they are unconnected it would be difficult to change their height particularly.

b.Which option is convenient for modeling walls, By Height or By Depth?

Ans Modelling walls is convinient by height because we create walls by using plan of level one and walls are mostly above the level. By depth can be used for creating floor below the level.

3) Copy the model elements ( wall, floor ) modelled to Ground Floor Level and paste it aligned to First Floor Level . Use modify tab to utilize copy and paste options to align
elements to a different level

Aim: To copy the model elements ( wall, floor ) modelled to Ground Floor Level and paste it aligned to First Floor Level.

Commands Used:

  • Floor plan(Ground floor level)
  • Copy to clipboard
  • Floor plan(First floor level)
  • Paste(Aligned to selected levels )

Procedure:

  • Click on ground floor level in Floor plan from project browser
  • Select all model elements ( wall, floor ) modelled to Ground Floor Level
  • Select copy to clipboard from modify tab
  • Click on first floor level in Floor plan from project browser
  • Paste the copied elements on first floor level by clicking on aligned to selected levels

Result: Copied the model elements ( wall, floor ) modelled to Ground Floor Level and pasted it aligned to First Floor Level.

4) Use interior partition walls to create separate rooms within your residential unit. The model must include the following rooms

a. Living Room/ Drawing Room ( 15’ X 18’)
b. Dining Room (9’ X 11’)
c. Bed Room ( 9’ X 12’ and 15’ X 11’)
d. Rest Room ( 10’ X 12’ )
e. Kitchen (8’ X 10’)

The above are for examples. You can use them or use your measured entities to create your model based on your layout. You may include entry walkway, Patios or Guest
rooms based on your creativity and purpose of modeling. Convert units if you are using metric system

Aim: To create separate rooms within residential unit.

Commands used:

  • Floor plan(Ground floor plan)
  • Architectural wall
  • Properties(basic wall)

Procedure:

  • Select ground floor plan from floor plan in project browser
  • Open Architectural tab and select architectural wall
  • Choose Basic wall(interior 3 1/8") from properties
  • Create interior partition walls to create separate rooms like hall, kitchen according to plan within residential unit

Result: creation of separate rooms within residential unit is done.

5) Based on week 2 assignment, the components to be included in a residential unit were inserted to the Revit file. Place these components in appropriate locations to add details to your residential model

a. Place Doors and windows in the wall at appropriate locations
b. The Living Room must include furniture set, couch table and TV desk and shelf cabinets
c. The Dining Room must include a table and chairs serving the purpose of eating
d. Bed Room must include a bed set, shelf, lighting and individual study desk and chair
e. Rest room should include bath tub and plumbing fixtures discussed in class
f. Kitchen should include countertops, gas stove cabinet and shelves to store food items
g. The wash/storage room can include washing machines and shelves to store clothes

All the components are available in Revit Library. Use them to place at appropriate locations to add details to your model. Use 3D navigation to check the model and its authenticity on a real time basis to verify the model

Aim: To add components like doors, windows etc. that are to be included in residential unit

Commands used:

  • Floor plan(Ground floor plan)
  • Insert
  • Load family
  • Architecture tab
  • Component(Place a component)

Procedure:

  • Select ground floor plan from floor plan in project browser
  • Open Insert tab
  • Click on load family
  • Select the required component and click open
  • Go to architecture tab
  • Click on Component (Add a component) and select the required component loaded previously from properties browser
  • Place the component at requred place on ground floor plan
  • Check the placing by shifting to 3D view
  • you can also use camera option from view tab to check the placement

Result: Adding components like doors, windows etc. that are to be included in residential unit is done.
