Week 3 - 2D meshing for Sheet metal

                            PROJECT REPORT

AIM :

Check and correct geometrical errors on the Hood model and take mid surface, then mesh it based on element Quality criteria given below,

OBJECTIVES :

  • To check and correct geometrical errors on the Hood model
  • Generating Midsurface and geometry clean-up on the given component
  • Generating mesh on the given component with low tria concentration and proper mesh flow

BODY OF THE CONTENT :

The given model is the Hood model with a thickness of 0.75.

This is the CAD MODEL,

Checked the Geometry using the tool [Checks--Geometry].

cleaned up the model by fixing all errors.

Took the mid surface of the parent object using the selection tool Feature area.

The model is almost symmetric.

Selected the best cleaned-up side among the sides of the parent component.

cleaned up the part by replacing the damaged face with New Faces.

Used Topo and Release Tools for cleaning up.

Set new PID to mid-surface with thickness.

It started meshing with a component and moving outwardly.

Applied the all given elements of Quality Criteria by [Quality criteria--Shells].

Changed to Hidden Mood to identify the off elements and fixed using the Tools in the Shell mesh they are Reconstruct, Smooth, Collapse, and in the Elements they are Split, Swap.

Completed the meshing of the symmetric part with low tria concentration and proper mesh flow.

Deleted the one half of the part that is symmetrical.

Used the tool [Transform--Copy--Symmetry--Mirror 3 points plane]

The 3 points in the symmetric object are at the ends and middle.

And meshed the remaining part to complete the meshing of the mid-surface.

CONCLUSION :

For the given Hood model, The mid surface after checking the geometrical errors, meshed with the mid surface1.42% tria concentration, and proper mesh flow with the given element Quality criteria.
