Week 3 - 2D meshing for Sheet metal

2D- Meshing for Sheet Metal
Aim:
For the given (HOOD INNER PANEL) CAD model geometrical cleanup, mid-surfacing and meshing are performed for the given quality criteria.
Objective:
* Proper geometry cleanups (Ease access of mid-surfacing).
* Mid-Surfacing (Offset).
* Meshing the model as per the given QC without any OFF elements.
Procedure:
1) Importing the (IGS file) model into the ANSA.

2) To improve edges and curves feature qualities, in classic mesh LENGTH---Perimeters and Macros are adjusted to 1 to get good finish of the solid model.

3) Topo command is used for the stitching of curves with their neighbouring edges. It will turn red(Single cons) to yellow (Connected cons-2), orient command is performed for the proper faces alignments.

4) Geometry checks are done, which corrected automatic FIX as well as manually.

5) After correcting every error, the given model can be investigated whether sheet metal or plastic. It is determined as the sheet metal as it contains the same thickness throughout the model.

6) Quality criteria file is saved as per the given model.

7) As this model is identified as a single component manual offset method is preferred for the proper meshing, before that the given model looks identical on both sides.

8) As the model is confirmed the identical geometry, hence the meshing is done on one side and the other side can be mirrored.

9) After clearing the geometry into half, BEST meshing command is used for the manual meshing and the mesh flows are rectified for further processing.

10) OFF elements and proper mesh flow are to be generated.
11) Commands like SPLIT, SWAP, JOIN, and PASTE are used to correct the mesh flow manually for the optimized quality.
(Paste option in GRIDS)

12) Commands like SMOOTH, RECONSTRUCT, RESHAPE, IMPROVE, and OPTIMISE are used to correct the elemental errors for good flow with the mesh.

14) Mesh corrections cannot be done in a single shot it will take some time.

15) Through the TRANSFORM------copy entities-----Mirror 3Points Plane option the proper meshed model can be mirrored and replicated for the opposite side.

16) Even after mirroring some edges lacks in its stitching, those single cons are stitched together using the topo command once again.

17) Final checks are done with mesh flow, OFF elements status etc.

Course Outcome
* Manual geometry cleanups.
* Manual offset command for mid-surfacing.
* Use of Rm.Dbl command for symmetry checks.
* Mirroring of meshed region.

Results:
The given (HOOD INNER PANEL) CAD model geometrical cleanup, mid-surfacing and meshing is performed as per the given quality criteria.
