Week 3 - 2D meshing for Sheet metal
OBJECTIVE
- To Fix all geometrical errors
- To create Mid-surface and
- To mesh with the given element Quality Criteria for the given hood model.
PROCEDURE
1.Open the given Hood Inner panel in ANSA by using File > Open
Hood Inner panel
2. After that Go to Tool >Checks >Geometry for Cleanup.
3. As shown in screenshot, Checks Manager window click Execute to check any error occurred in Hood
Model and fix the Error and Cleanup the Geometry.
Error in Hood Model
- In the above screenshot, error has been occurred in the given hood model. Check the error showing in the Model and also tic mark on single cons.
- When eliminating the error, Right Click on the error which is going to resolve and click Show only option.
Cleanup the Geometry
- It will show that Needle Face and unchecked faces. Using Face >Delete Option to delete the Unwanted
Needle Face.
- After deleting the Needle Face, that error has been resolved. In this way other errors has to be fixed.
- After that Click Execute in the Checks Manager and 100% Geometry Cleanup is now get.
Cleanup the Geometry
CREATING MID-SURFACE:
1.After geometry Cleanup and Mid-surface has to be created for Hood model.
2.Initially to Measure thickness of the Component for Creating Mid-Surface. Go to Utilities > Measure Option
3.In the below the window, Click two nodes or cons to measure the thickness of the Component and Store the Measurement.
Hood Model Mid-Surface
4. using Faces > offsets after that click on featured area and then select face.
Featured area
5.Select the Face and enter the Offset Value 0.75/2 to create a Mid-Surface for the Component.
Offset Value
- After entering the Offset Value and click Ok and Mid-surface will be created.
Hood model Mid-Surface
- After creating a Mid-Surface, Click Faces > Set PID option and create New PID for Mid-surface in the properties.
MESHING:
- For meshing Mid-Surface, set the given mesh Quality Criteria for the Component.
- To reduce time for meshing symmetrical hood model, delete the Half of the faces for the any symmetrical Component and do Meshing.
Symmetrical Component
Hood Model - Half Face
- For that follow Go Utilities >Quality Criteria Option and assign the given Quality Criteria Values.
Quality Criteria
Quality Criteria
- After assigning the Quality Criteria for the Component, Go to Utilities >Mesh Parameters and assign the Average Value for Meshing.
Mesh Parameters
- Go to Mesh >Perimeters > Length Option and Select the whole good model to Mesh and enter the Value of Perimeter 5mm Length for Meshing.
Perimeter Length
6.In order to get good mesh it require to measure the distance between two hot points if it gets less then average length then it will be redistributes got points in order to maintain average length and divide the surface into parts using cut option so that mesh will be uniform and reduce the number of tria formed.
Distance between two cons
Joining cut lines
- After that go to Mesh >Mesh Generation Option and Select the best Mesh type to mesh the whole Component Part by part.
Mesh Generation
- Use Shell Mesh-->Reconstruct option to rearrange the Mesh and Use Shell Mesh >Smooth Option to refine Mesh lines equally within the Selected Surface and solving the Quality criteria issues.
Reconstruct mesh
Smooth Mesh
- Use Grids-->Paste and Elements >Split / Swap / Joint Option to eliminate or reduce the trias and get better mesh flow.
Use of Split to remove tria
- After meshing half surface now to eliminate quality criteria failure mesh we again smooth the mesh surrounding the failure occurrence.
Quality criteria failure
Quality criteria failure
Quality criteria failure
- After eliminating all mesh criteria failure Meshing half surface now to get another half component we use transform, Go to Utilities >Transform >Copy Option and the Select the Component to Copy.
Transform for copy
Copy Entities
Mirror 3 points plane
- In the above Copy Entities, select Symmetry and use Mirror 3 points plane and Select the 3 points to Copy the entity on other side and Opposite Surface will be generated.
- Parent Surface thickness Value is to be Provide for the Mesh Component.
Go to Lists >Properties option and Assign the Thickness Value.
