Week 3 - 2D meshing for sheet metal
Aim:
To create a meshing of Hood check for the geometrical errors and mesh with the given element quality criteria.
Procedure:
- Open the model in Ansa before assigning the quality check for geometry issues and fix them.

- After geometry check extract mid surface for each part in the hood in the current model we have five parts Latch, Sheet metal Hood, Hood back frame, LHS Hinge and RHS Hinge.

- Here I have use manual mid surface and auto mid surface.

Here is the top sheet metal hood extracting the mid surface by using the Auto Mid option.
- After extracting the mid surface, I have assigned a new property ID for all five mid surfaces.

- Now assign the quality criteria and in mesh mode enable Hidden drawing style so that the quality issues wil be visible.

Here we enable the given quality criteria.
- Before we do the meshing, we have to define length of the perimeter and macros.

Here we define the length of the perimeter and macros.
- By using the BEST mesh, the meshing operation is done.
- After the meshing of the surface the quality issues were found. By using the reconstruction of shell mesh the issues are corrected.
- To improve the quality criteria, we use the smooth option in shell mesh it helps to reduce the trias and form the quads.
- And also the split in the element helps to improve the quality criteria.
Learning outcomes:
- Making topo for the model.
- Checking for geometry issues and fix the issues by auto and manual methods.
- Taking the mid surface for the given model by the manual offset method and the Auto Mid method.
- Making the quality criteria and change the average length of the perimeter and macros.
- Switching the meshing mode and mesh the model by using of best mesh.
- After that we switch the hidden drawing the quality issues were shown.
- By the reconstruction of shells, the issues are fixed and the mesh quality is improved.
Conculusion:
Finally, the given Hood model is meshed without failing of quality criteria.
Results
Linge meshed.
Latch meshed.
Hood frame meshed.
Sheet metal Hood meshed.
