Week 2 Railwheel and Track
Objective: Perform a static structural analysis on a railwheel track setup with two different loads and compare stress strain deformation and life for two cases.
Solution:
In case-1 we need to compare the results for the bearing load for 100000N vs 500000N and also we need to compare total deformation, Equivalent stress and Life for both 100000N and 500000N.
Material used is Structural Steel.
-First we import the geometry to ANSYS workbench.

-Now, we need to check the contact faces for the geometry.

-Now, we give joint weld connections for the geometry. Where, rail will be fixed the wheel handel will be given translation motion and the face of the wheel will be given planer motion.
-Now, we genrate mesh with 50mm as default mesh size and for the contact faces of the geometry will be assigned 35mm.

-Now, we give the boundary conditions to the geometry.
-The first step of the analysis will be set as default, But, from step 2 to 5 will be incrementing as shown in the picture above.
-Now, we will assign the joint loads to the geometry. First, the wheel handel will be given displacement for about 500mm and then we will assign the bearing loads.
-Now, we give the required solutions for the analysis i.e Total deformation, Equivalent stress and Life.

Comparison Table
Total Deformation Equivalent Stress Life User defined(angle)
Case-1: 100000N 999.02 95.648 1e6 -
Case-1: 500000N 999.08 388.34 1e6 -
Case-2: 100000N 999.02 95.648 1e6 1.3108e-16
Conclusion:
-Deformation of the geometry is constant in both the cases with different loads. But, when coming to stress there is huge raise.
