Challenge

Week 2 Challenge : Surface meshing on a Pressure valve

Aim - to check for the geometrical errors and perform Topology cleanup accordingly. Set three different target lengths as three different cases and mesh the model.

  • Target length = 1mm, 3 mm and 5 mm (i.e. 3 cases)
  • Element type = Tria

Objective- to perform meshing in the given model after topo clean up.

Procedure-

1) Download the give model and open it in Ansa

2)Check the model for topo errors by using geometry error check in topo mode

4)Using new faces for fill holes clean up the geometry.

5)after geometry is cleaned up recheck geopmetry

6)Assign PID(property identifier) to faces

7)after assigning PID give the target length in qualoity criteria and mesh property

8)than go to mesh mode and give length macro and perimeter the given target length

9)use the meshing option to mesh the model

initial downloaded model with bad topo-

model after geometry clean up using new face and fill hole command-

Model after assigning all PID-

model after meshing using 1 mm target length-

spring at 1mm target length

model after meshing using 3 mm target length-

spring at 3mm target length-

model after meshing using 5 mm target length-

spring at 5mm target length

Results-

We have meshed our model with 3 different mesh lengths and obtained the results. The following can be concluded:

  1. As the mesh length decreases, the number of elements increases and we get more refined meshed model.
  2. target length must be of suffice value so model can retain its shame and does not deform.

Conclusion- meshing with 3 different target length done model with 3mm gives the best result as it is sufficent ,for the model to mesh without any deformation
