Week 2 Challenge : Surface meshing on a Pressure valve

CHALLENGE REPORT :

AIM:

To check the geometrical errors and perform Topology cleanup for given model and mesh the model for three given target length.

OBJECTIVES:

  • To check the geometrical errors and perform Topology cleanup for given model.
  • To mesh the model for three given target length (1mm,3mm,5mm).
  • Compare three target length.

PROCEDURE :

           i) Import the given model ( Pressure valve ).

ii) First check the geomentry error in the model by using the geomentry checks (geomentry and intersection) in the check manager.

iii) Clear all the errors which is shown in the geomentry check.'

iv) Geomentry error are denoted with red cons ( which are some open faces in the model and overlap of faces ).

          v) Open faces can be corrected using the coons, fitted, planar, existing surf options in the new under the faces tab and by fill hole option in the cons tab depends on the shape requried for model.

vi) Intersection error can be corrected using the intersect option in faces tab.

vii) Using the property option we can assign the name and colour for parts separately.

viii) Assign the Mesh property using the maximum and minimum target length in basic under the CFD mesh, tri and 1st order.

ix) Assign the perimeters and macros in the spacing under perimeters tab.

OUTPUTS :

The geomentry error in the model before the correction

After correction of geomentry error :

Properties of perts in model :

    i) For Target length=5mm. (max and mini length should be near to given target length ).

           Maximum length=5.5,

           Minimun length=4.5.

    ii)For Target length=3mm.

           Maximum length=3.5,

           Minimun length=2.5

   iii)For Target length=3mm.

           Maximum length=1,

           Minimun length=0.3.

COMPARISION :

i) Target length= 5mm.

Meshing in target length 5mm ,it can't cover the entire geometry of the model properly . So we can't get the proper mesh.

ii) Target length= 3mm.

Meshing in target length 3mm also can't cover the entire geometry of the model properly, but it is better than 5mm. So till we can't get proper mesh.

ii) Target length= 1mm.

Meshing in target length 1mm can able to cover the entire geomentry of the model. So, it shows quality mesh.

CONCLUSION :

From the comparision, we can conclude that 1mm of target length gives quality meshing when comparied with 3mm and 5mm. These shows that we have to select the target length perfectly to get quality mesh and it is depend on the size of model. The quality of mesh will be incresed with the decrese of target length.
