- Name few codal standards incorporated in STAAD Pro software.
ANSWERS :
- In STAAD.Pro the codal standard are incorporated for steel , concrete and Aluminium
- For steel codal provision are ISO 800 , ISO 800 :2007 ,WSD,IS801
- For concrete the codal provision are ISO456 and IS13920 for the seismic design
- How will you specify the design compressive strength for a RCC section?
ANSWERS :
Open “STAAD.Pro software” > Click “NEW” > Give Name of the drawing > Select “MATRIC” option > Click “CREATE” > u will get New window > Go to “DESIGN” option > u will get dialog box called “ STEEL DESIGN -WHOLE STRUCTURE” > click “DEFINE PARAMTERS” > Give a design parameter the compressive strength of RCC Section is 25000KN/m2 > Click “ADD” and “ CLOSE “

- 1. State the “Input” steps involved in RCC design.
Geometry :
The node location and the Node spacing are given
Properties :
Specify the sectional Properties of the section
Materials :
Specify the properties of the materials
SPECIFICATION:
The specification are given
Support :
The End support are to be given as per necessity
Loding :
Need to Provide the Loading pattern and Loading combination
ANALYSIS :
Need to analysis the model and all the input specifications are given
Design :
Finally the design are to be done
- How will you assign Unit system to a .std model file?
ANSWERS :
- When the Fixed or Fixed But type of support is specified , for those degree of freedom which are to be treated as fully restrained , STAAD Assumes the displacement to be known quantities whose value of Zero .
- Hence , those degrees of freedom are not considered for the stiffness matrix and their value not calculated .
- For the fixed but support type , if any degree of freedom as assigned a spring using the KFX thru KMZ terms
- Those are treated as unknown s their displacement are calculated .
- When the Enforced OR Enforced but type of support is specified , for those degree of freedom which are to be treated as restrained ,
- STAAD assign a spring with a very high spring stiffness -translational stiff springs for translational stiff springs for rotational restraints .
- Those degrees of freedom which are free displace are assigned Springs of zero stiffness , Hence for all the 6 degrees of freedom at such supports
- The Displacement are calculated
The one which have a stiff spring will end up having a negligible displacements , and those with zero stiffness will have a displacement based on the structure geometry properties and loading
- 1. Explain the steps involved in analysis of a model using STAAD Pro sequentially.
- Select the Run analysis tool in the analysis group on the analysis and design ribbon tab.
Press
- The STAAD Analysis and design dialog box
- During the analysis (and design , specified ) and Output file is generated , this file may contain selected input data items , results and error messages .
- Optional Print specification can be used to include additional information in the output file
- Explain the two ways in which a structural framework/model can be created in STAAD Pro software.
Answers :
The two ways to model structural framework is :
- Creating Model by Node to Node
- Creating Model by Bay Frame

- Elaborate the different support conditions in STAAD Pro.
ANSWERS :
There are 5 type of support conditions that are Predefined in the Software :
Fixed : all the transitional and rotational displacement are restrained
Pinned : Transitional displacement are restrained but rotational moments are restrained .
Fixed but : The fixed support is similar to pinned support it allows us to provide the degree of freedom to view the displacement either translation or rotational
Enforced : when enforced supports are assigned to the structure the software allows the springs to itself and the displacement can be calculated however there is no provision to provide the spring constant
Enforced but : The software assigns the spring itself with zero stiffness to High stiffness

- How will you extract the stress distribution for a staircase slab?
ANSWERS :
- Open “STAAD.PRO” software
- Define nodes to the Staircase Design
- Add plate / Solid represent the stairs slab
- Assign the Materials and Properties
- Run the Analysis
- After Analysis is done , double click on the plate element to view the stress
- Explain the different ways to view SFD & BMD in STAAD Pro.
ANSWERS :
- After completion of the design the STAAD.PRO will automatically provide the SFD & BMD
- By entering to the post processing process
- Click “OK”
- By clicking the beam results deflection command
- Reaction click the beam deflection
