Week 2 Challenge
Inputs data:
*Width of the bridge deck = 7m
*Span of the bridge = 24m
*Pier size = 2 m dia.
*The seismic zone = Zone III
*Wind speed = 42 km/hr
*Unit weight of soil = 18 kN/m3
Problem:
*To apply the IRC live loads
*To model in Staad pro and perform the structural analysis
Solution:
Step-1:
*Types of Loading:
1. IRC Class A loading
2. IRC Class B loading
3. IRC Tracked / Wheeled loading
4. IRC Class 70R loading
Step-2:
Input summary for staad modeling:
1. Deck slab = 200mm Thick
2. Girder = 1700mm (H) x 500mm (T)
3. Cross Girder = 1500mm (H) x 300mm (T)
4. Grider to Girder distance = 1.9m (along the width of the bridge)
5. Cross Girder to Cross Girder distance = 8.0m (along the length of the bridge)
6. Railing post at every 1.0m distance (along the length of bridge) on both sides (along the width of the bridge)
7. Weathering course of 50mm
8. Kerb beam of 350mm depth above deck slab (along the length of bridge)
Step-3:
* Geometry modeled in staad.
Pier of 2.0m dia assigned
A raft of 5.7mx9.5m was created, assigned with 1.5m depth.
Girder beam of 1.7mx0.5m assigned
Cross girder beam of 1.7mx0.5m assigned
* Member profiles assigned
* Grouping is done for (Piers, Raft foundations, Girder beams, and Cross girder beams)
* Foundation support assigned
* Vehicle definition, is done for Class-A type
* Primary load cases generated
loads generated calculated as (span of bridge + length of vehicle)/(1m) = (24+18.8)/(1) = (40)
loads applied and analysis done.
results generated in staad.
