Challenge

Week 1 Challenge

Objective:

To calculate the loads and apply them in Staad pro and perform structural analysis.

Inputs available:

Width of bridge deck=10.2m,

Span of bridge=12m,

Pier size=2.5m dia,

Seismic zone=IV,

Wind speed=47 km/hr,

Unit weight of soil=19 kN/m^3.

Also, the site is within a 60 km radius of the Bay of Bengal.

Inputs assumed:

Deck slab thick=250mm,

Parapet wall, height=1m, and thick=300mm,

Unit weight of RCC=25 kN/m^3,

Unit weight of PCC=24 kN/m^3,

Unit weight of Rebar=78.5 kN/m^3,

Unit weight of brick=22 kN/m^3,

Unit weight of finishes=24 kN/m^3.

Dead Load calculation:

Self-weight of Deck slab=(width x thick x unit weight)

=(10.2 x 0.25 x 25) = (6.75 kN/m)

Self-weight of parapet wall=(height x thick x unit weight)

=(1 x 0.3 x 25) = (7.5 kN/m)

No. of parapet wall=2

Self-weight of Box Girder:

=(112.475 kN/m)
