Week 3 Challenge
Week 3 Challenge – Explanation
Inputs data:
* I-Girder beam to be designed.
* Center to center distance of piers along the width of the bridge deck is 26m.
* Span of the bridge is 25m.
* Pier height is 10m.
Problem:
*To apply the IRS Railway loads
*To model in Staad pro and perform the structural analysis
Solution:
IRS – Indian Railway Standard.
Purpose of designing and constructing Railway related structures.
The various IRS loads for design.
- Metro Rail loading
- Broad Gauge loading
- Electric Train loading
- Gauge ‘A’ and Gauge ‘B’ loading
Metro live load :
Axle loading = 17 Tons
A maximum number of cars = 6 nos.
Wheel configuration, length (a) = 2150 (mm), (b) = 2200 (mm, (c) = 12400 (mm)
Length of car = 21100 (mm)
Assume:
Pier column size = 2.3m dia.
I-Girder beam size = Tapered (F1) =1.6m, (F2) =0.3m, (F3) =1.6m, (F4/F6) =2.0m, (F5) =0.3m.
Longitudinal beam size = Rect. 2.0m x 2.0m
Deck slab thick = 350mm.
Modeled in Staad.
Member properties created and assigned.
Support as fixed given.
Load application:
Vehicle load definition made
Type-1 loading created and assigned.
Type-2 loading created and assigned.
Type-3 loading created and assigned.
Refer staad model attached for the load applied.
Load cases generated:
Load cases 1 to 9 were created and applied for Type-1 loading.
Load cases 10 to 18 were created and applied for Type-2 loading.
Load cases 19 to 27 were created and applied for Type-3 loading.
Performed Analysis.
Results:
Bending Moment diagram for LC-7.
Forces in Graphs.
Plate Stress results for LC-6.
