Week 2 Challenge
Note: Due to some problem with the Aspen HYSYS software, I was not able to get the line sizing option from the equipmnet design section. Instead I have only pipe sizing option where I was only allowed to enter pipe schedule number to identify pipe ID. Other data like material type, fittings, no.of fitings etc were not available in the pipe sizing option. In this context, the results of this task are not so accurate.
Week -2: Hydraulics Challenge
Question -1 Line sizing
At Pump suction,
At pump discharge,
At Compressor suction,
At Separator inlet,
Question -2 Pressure drop
At pump suction,
The pressure drop across the length of the pipe at the specified conditions is 79.07 kPa.
At pump discharge,
The pressure drop across the length of the pipe at the specified conditions is 98.86 kPa
At compressor suction,
Through Adjustor operation, the mass flow rate at 5 MMSCFD std. gas flow is 4003 kg/h.
The pressure drop across the length of the pipe at the specified conditions is 4.507 kPa
At separator inlet,
The pressure drop across the length of the pipe at the specified conditions is 30.31 kPa
Question – 3: Net Positive Suction Head (NPSH)
At the specified conditions of T=90°C and P= 5 bar_g there exists a vapour phase in the inlet stream.
Assumptions have been made by changing the process conditions (increasing the pressure) to avoid vapour phase at the inlet stream. At such conditions negative NPSH is obtained.
So, the available NPSH at the given conditions is -19.73 m.
Question – 4: Choked flow condition
The flow is choked at a flowrate of 19020 kg/h.
