Week 2 Bevel Gear Challenge

Bevel Gear Challenge

AIM

To carry out a static structural analysis on bevel gear with given material.

PROCEDURE

To find and compare the results of Equivalent stress, Total deformation, Stress intensity for all the cases.

Case-1: 4mm.

Case-2: 5mm.

Case-3: 6mm.

1)Write a few words on what a grid dependency test is and its use.

2)Perform a grid dependency test for the Bevel gear simulation for mesh sizes of 6,5 and 4 mm

3) Solve for Von-Mises stress, Equivalent elastic strain, and Total Deformation using the previously mentioned mesh sizes.

4) Present your findings in an organized manner.

Points to be Noted for Challenge Submission:

  • Few words about Grid Dependency.
  • Running the simulations at the three mesh sizes.
  • Presenting your findings( Report presentation with appropriate figures and tables/charts comparing your results etc.)
  • Perform all three cases as per the Question and Attach the simulated data to the assets block.
  • Case 1:

Using strainless steel as a material, carry out a static structural analysis to find out Equivalent stress, Total deformation and Equivalent elastic strain with thickness of 4mm

Import the geometry.

select the material.

strainless steel.

And open the model panel.

In connection panel connect the spur gear.

Each spur gear has 16 side and 24 side.

And it has 16 face and 24 faces on two bevel gear.

contact size = frictional.

behaviour = symmentry.

formulation = augmented tagrange.

interface treatment = adjust to tough.

After that create joint

there are two joint

connection type = body-ground.

And select right and left side.

mesh the component with element sizing of 4mm.

Element sizing of 1.5mm in gear faces.

Analysis the static structural in analysis setting there are 6 steps

defining by = time

Use joint load on it.

After solving the problem

  • Case 2:

Using strainless steel as a material, carry out a static structural analysis to find out Equivalent stress, Total deformation and Equivalent elastic strain with thickness of 5mm

Import the geometry.

select the material.

strainless steel.

And open the model panel.

In connection panel connect the spur gear.

Each spur gear has 16 side and 24 side.

And it has 16 face and 24 faces on two bevel gear.

contact size = frictional.

behaviour = symmentry.

formulation = augmented tagrange.

interface treatment = adjust to tough.

After that create joint

there are two joint

connection type = body-ground.

And select right and left side.

mesh the component with element sizing of 5mm.

Element sizing of 1.5mm in gear faces.

Analysis the static structural in analysis setting there are 6 steps

defining by = time

Use joint load on it.

After solving the problem

  • Case 3:

Using strainless steel as a material, carry out a static structural analysis to find out Equivalent stress, Total deformation and Equivalent elastic strain with thickness of 6mm

And select right and left side.

mesh the component with element sizing of 6mm.

Element sizing of 1.5mm in gear faces.

Analysis the static structural in analysis setting there are 6 steps

defining by = time

Use joint load on it.

After solving the problem

thickness = 4mm

thickness = 5mm

thickness = 6mm
