Basic Calibration of Single cylinder SI-Engine
Aim:
Basic Calibration of Single cylinder SI-Engine.
Objectives:
1.Run the case at 1800 rpm and list down important parameters
- air flow rate
- BMEP
- BSFC
- In-cylinder pressure
2. Increase the power output at 3600 rpm by 10%
Modelling Approach:

Simulation model of SI Engine:
Open GT Suite>> open tutorials>> select 1cycleDIorSI>> select SI engine

Boundary conditions:
Input conditions

SI Injection input

Combustion input with anchor angle and duration

Activating Nox and CO

Case setup for RPM, AF and duration

GT Post:
Pressure variation at 1800 rpm
Pressure variation at 3600 rpm

Engine characteristics

At 1800rpm, the BMEP= IMEP-FMEP= 10.41-1.13= 9.28 bar
At 3600rpm, the BMEP= IMEP-FMEP= 12.8-1.75=11.05 bar
Airflow rate at 1800 rpm=24.6kg/h
Airflow rate at 3600 rpm=58.8kg/h
Brake Power at 1800rpm=7KW
Brake Power at 3600rpm=16.6KW

The NOX level for 1800rpm=3809.49ppm
The NOX level for 3600rpm=1124.47ppm
Conclusions:
- The SI engine modelling is done successfully with given input parameters.
- The rpm, duration and air fuel ratio is taken to compare the performance.
- The brake power and air flow rate has increased for 3600 rpm speed.
